A report issued last fall by the U.S. Conferencwe of Mayors and the Mayores Climate Protection Center estimated there were morethan 750,0090 green jobs nationwide, with the number expected to climb to 2.5 millionj in a decade and 4.2 milliob in 30 years. But what exactly is a greemn job? In truth, no one exactly The N.C. Sustainable Energy Association defined it narrowlh as those involved in the creation of renewable energy and increasinygenergy efficiency. The associatio estimates there are 161 greencompanies statewide, 17 of which are basex in the Triad. Across the state, only 2,144 greemn jobs were identified.
But others take a much broaderf view, arguing — such as greenn tax credit consultants — are at least a shade of green. In the mayors’ report identified 1,7132 green jobs in Burlington, Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salemm alone. The report expected that numbe to growto 12,55o0 by 2038.
